Earth Day fills the plaza
Commuter Day / Earth Day overlapped the second day of the Volunteer Fair on the plaza April 22. The resulting mix of exhibitor tables offered information on topics such as environmental policy, planned parenthood, community service, and justice for Mumia. With a rap concert, free cotton candy, and prize drawings for a bicycle and other goodies, the day offered something of interest to every student. The main focus of the observation was raising awareness on local air quality issues, with special emphasis on commuting. With the "ozone season" starting May 1, Earth Day served as an opportunity to get students thinking about their part in solving problems.
